Title: Analytic predictions for compact binaries

Abstract: The observation of gravitational waves from compact binaries is a
landmark sucess for astrophysics and fundamental physics. These
observations require accurate predictions for the detection and
parameter estimation of the sources. Future developments of the
experiments will require ever more accurate predictions for
gravitational waveforms based on numerical simulations and perturbative
calculations. It is hence timely to develop efficient methods for
analytic perturbative descriptions of compact binaries. This talk
discusses different approaches in this directions, with an emphasis on
methods from quantum field theory applied to the classical problem of
coalescing compact binaries.
