Toward General-Purpose, Human-in-the-Loop Autonomous Research Systems
Abstract
Harmoniqs is a startup that emerged from The Robotic Exploration Lab at Carnegie Mellon, building control and calibration systems for all flavors of quantum computers. Our optimization-based methods work effectively on transmons, superconducting bosonic qubits, neutral atoms, and photonics.
Building on what we learned, we recently created a tool to aid our now-sprawling R&D activities, internally and with our partners. We call this tool Amicode: an agentic system for autonomous research and development, built to make researchers' jobs smoother and keep them engaged in the autoresearch loop.
In this talk I will discuss how we developed this system for maximum human legibility and minimal noise. We will cover harness and context engineering, software development automations, LLM-research error correction, and other fun things, with examples from autonomous quantum hardware experiments and neutral-atom tweezer control optimization.“
