Nanoparticles in the fight against cancer

Physics forms the basis for the most successful treatments for cancer - radiation, proton therapy, etc.
The latest addition could be using nanoparticles to increase the effects of radiation. We are following the research at the cellular level. For example, if you inject gold nanoparticles into a tumor, you can then use the focused laser light to heat the nanoparticles, which would destroy the surrounding cancerous tissue.
