N2 - Descriptions of Danish dialects often concentrate on phenomena that disappear concurrently with modernisation and urbanisation, and due to influence from standard Danish. The aim of the present article is slightly different in focusing on the new words that come into use in the Danish dialects in the period 1850-1920. The main emphasis is laid on words belonging to agricultural terminology. Four concepts are examined in greater details, and the article argues that the neologisms within the period are not just loan words from the standard language, there are also examples of words and meanings that must be of local origin. The primary sources used in this study are Ømålsordbogen (i.e. The Dictionary of the Insular Dialects) and its collections.
