N2 - A semiotics of the interpersonal relationship of friendship invites dialogues with friendship studies in philosophy, the humanities, and the social and natural sciences. By complementing the mono- and multidisciplinary approaches to friendship realized in numerous context-specific ways, semiotics can offer tools for analysing such approaches in a search for a more interdisciplinary understanding of friendship, its shifting interpretations, and how its models and formations can be mapped.
