Searching for Galactic Neutrino Sources with IceCube-Gen2

Abstract: This thesis investigates the potential of the next-generation neutrino observatory, IceCube-Gen2, to detect high-energy neutrino emission from Galactic sources. Motivated by the recent IceCube observation of diffuse emission from the Galactic plane, we explore whether IceCube-Gen2 can discover individual components of the Galactic neutrino flux.

Using the public "toise" framework, extended with custom signal models, we evaluate 5σ discovery potentials for various scenarios: modelled emission from interacting supernovae, spatially extended sources, a catalog of known gamma-ray sources, and diffuse emission compared to quasi-diffuse emission originating from many unresolved sources.
