Berislav Buča is an assistant professor at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen with a Villum Young Investigator grant. He is a member of the Niels Bohr International Academy (NBIA). He is also a visiting researcher at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford (personal website).

Berislav obtained his PhD at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2015. He was a post-doc at the Department of Physics, University of Oxford from 2017 to 2022 and has lectured for Keble College Oxford since 2019.

    Research

Berislav's field of research is mathematical and theoretical physics of non-equilibrium quantum many-body systems with a view towards experimental relevant exact results. The main goal of his work is the theoretical understanding of out-of-equilibrium many-body quantum systems, especially those that are potentially relevant for future quantum technologies.

    Current Project

His project titled “Complex dynamics of non-stationary quantum matter”, awarded by the Villum Young Investigator grant in 2022, studies and applies algebraic methods that allow for calculations of long-time complex (non-stationary) dynamics in quantum many-body systems. The project aims to enable discovery of novel kinds of non-stationary (persistently time-dependent) phases of quantum matter out-of-equilibrium. Such systems have not been theoretically accessible before due to the presence of strong interactions that render known theoretical methods unapplicable.
