Brighter Beams, Smarter Science: Opportunities at the Fourth-Generation Advanced Light Source with AI

Abstract

The ALS-U upgrade transforms the Advanced Light Source into a diffraction-limited, fourth-generation synchrotron, delivering soft X-ray brightness up to two orders of magnitude higher and opening new capabilities in imaging, spectroscopy, and scattering. This talk surveys the scientific opportunities that follow and the role of AI in beamline control, experiment design, and the analysis of the resulting data volumes.
