Markus Ahlers receives the Jens Martin Knudsen Award 2024
At the Niels Bohr Institute kickoff on 12 March 2026, the award for Teacher of the Year at the Niels Bohr Institute—the Jens Martin Knudsen Award—was presented to two recipients for two separate periods.
Markus Ahlers receives the award for his dedicated teaching and his ability to create a safe learning environment in the compulsory master’s course “Advanced Quantum Mechanics (Quant3).”
The Jens Martin Knudsen Award is presented by the students and NBI’s Teaching Committee. The award includes an operating grant of 10,000 DKK. The reasoning for this year’s award to Markus is this:
“Markus repeatedly receives excellent evaluations from the students. His lectures are often highlighted for being well-structured and engaging—even when the material is theoretically demanding.
A student says the following about taking Markus’s course in 2024:
‘The first thing I think of when I remember his teaching is his willingness to spend significant time on students’ questions. Every question was acknowledged and answered thoroughly, never met with skepticism. This openness creates a safe learning environment, further strengthened by his clear enthusiasm for teaching.’
We thank Markus for his enthusiasm and commitment to teaching."
