What can we do to reduce
the threat of nuclear weapons?

To mark the 75th anniversary of Niels Bohr's Open Letter to the United Nations, in which he argued for an open world in which nations cooperate and share information, a conference will be held in Copenhagen 19-21 November.

A number of the conference speakers with backgrounds in the natural sciences and who are prominent experts on nuclear weapons and related issues have agreed to participate in a Round Table, in which they will share their thoughts with us.

The members of the panel are:

  • Frank von Hippel, Cofounder, Princeton University Program on Science and Global Security, and Cofounder, Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction.
  • Hans Kristensen, Director, Nuclear Information Project, Federation of American Scientists.
  • Pavel Podvig, Senior Researcher, UN Institute for Disarmament Research, Geneva.
  • Rebecca Slayton, Director, Judith Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, Cornell University.
  • Tong Zhao, Senior Fellow, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Washington DC.

Following an historical survey by Frank von Hippel, panelists will describe possible directions for future initiatives, after which there will be an open time for questions from the floor.

Tea, coffee and cake will be served outside the auditorium from 14.00.
