The History of the Niels Bohr Institute
The Niels Bohr Institute was founded 1921 in Copenhagen for the physician and Nobel prize winner, Niels Bohr. Niels Bohr was known to have created the groundbreaking atom model, which formed our initial understanding of the building blocks of the world, and was later the base for the understanding of quantum mechanics, which has revolutionized the technological development.
European Physical Society has awarded the Niels Bohr Institute for being a Historical Site with great international importance for development and research in the field of physics, for the following reason: "This is where the foundation for atom physics and the modern physics was created in a creative, academic environment inspired by Niels Bohr in the 1920's and 1930's."
