Title: “Revealing phase transitions in neutron stars”

Abstract: Neutron stars (NSs) are among the densest objects in our
Universe, however, what constitutes their interior remains a puzzle.
While the quantum theory of strong interaction - the dominant force
acting on particles in NSs - is well established, it is virtually
impossible to calculate the state of dense NS matter from first
principles with current methods. On the other hand, astrophysical
observations of NSs provide an ideal laboratory for studying strong
interaction under such circumstances. Recent observations even suggest
the presence of a phase transition inside the heaviest NSs. What is the
current status of dense NS matter studies? What are possible ways of
taking advantage of the continuous advancement of gravitational-wave
detectors in phase transition studies? These are the main questions I
will address in my talk.
