Title: The hydrodynamics of core-collapse supernovae from theory to experiments and back
Abstract: The explosive death of massive stars starts with the gravitational collapse of their core into a proto-neutron star. Hydrodynamical instabilities break the spherical symmetry during the first second of the collapse. Beside their impact on the kick and spin of the neutron star, they are expected to imprint observable signatures on gravitational waves and on the modulation of the neutrino flux. The strong effects of rotation and turbulence can be captured by a surprisingly simple water experiment. I will review our current understanding using numerical simulations, perturbative analyses and analogue experiments
