Title: Aspects of low-energy string theory
Abstract: Low-energy excitations around string vacua are described by gravitational effective field theories. Despite the existence of many such possibilities, they seem to share some universal features. In this talk I will present some recent results on universal properties of three quantities which all gravitational effective field theories possess: the scale of vacuum energy, the scale of new physics and the scale at which the full ultraviolet completion takes over. Focusing on weakly coupled closed strings, universal parametric relations between these three scales arise from modular invariance in the worldsheet description.
