Title:  Reconstructing sea ice variability in the Nordic Seas and climate-system linkages

Abstract: Arctic sea ice is not only a passive indicator of climate change, but also an active agent of change across a range of time scales. For example, sea ice in the Nordic Seas has recently been implicated as an essential agent for triggering, amplifying and sustaining climate anomalies such as the so-called Little Ice Age.  Here we present an overview of sea-ice reconstructions from paleo proxies and historical data, and describe sea-ice variability during the past millennium, which is a period featuring abrupt climate transitions.
