PICE Talk by Marta Mrozowska

Title: Fish and upwelling: how do they mix? Research and experiences at the M189 RV Meteor cruise

Abstract:
In my Friday talk, I will be discussing the richness and importance of the Benguela and tropical Angolan Upwelling Systems. A multitude of ocean processes come together in driving the seasonal cycle of primary production in this coastal region. On longer time scales Benguela Ninõs and Ninãs affect the physical properties at the sea surface with serious consequences for the local fishing industries. Hydrographic observations at the Namibian and Angolan coast are therefore important for understanding and prediction of the warm and cold events. My talk will focus on the shipboard observations done on board of the RV Meteor cruise M189, the equipment we used and our preliminary findings.
