December 26, 2017 - Dry drilling and Christmas

Jason and Paul in the drill tent, drilling in "dry Christmas" mode.

We are currently at 57 metres depth, after three days of ice core drilling. The Danish Hans Tausen ice core drill is working very well and producing excellent quality ice cores. The drill tent crew (Nerilie, Ali, Jason and Paul) are in a good working mode and today we drilled, measured and packed 30 metres of ice. As long as core quality remains good, we will continue drilling in "dry" mode, without pouring adding estisol drilling liquid to the borehole.

Yesterday we celebrated Christmas with a roast turkey and delicious penguin cake, prepared by Sharon and Bloo. The kitchen tent was decorated with tinsel, a homemade Christmas tree, Danish Christmas hearts and several Christmas figures particular to Mt Brown.
