PhD Defense by Sofie Lindskov Hansen

In this talk I will present the main results of my PhD thesis entitled “Single-photon manipulation in Nanophotonic Circuits”.

First, I will motivate why this topic is interesting as well as useful. Then I will talk about the experimental demonstration of an on-chip electro-optic switch fabricated in GaAs with integrated InGaAs quantum dots. The switch  can deterministically route photons between two output ports. The second part of the talk will focus on overcoming one of the main limiting factors for the performance of the switching device, namely reflections from the gratings.
Lastly, I will briefly outline an experiment involving a quantum dot sitting in an engineered photonic crystal waveguide. This platform constitutes a propagation-direction-dependent light-matter interface."
