Quantum Optics Colloquium by Peter Zoller
Title: Quantum Simulation with Atoms and Ions
Abstract: Quantum simulators open new ways to explore many-body phenomena that exceed the reach of classical computation. Among the leading platforms are atoms and ions controlled by laser light, which offer both precision and scalability.
I will review recent progress in analog and digital simulation, with applications ranging from condensed matter to high-energy physics. Topics include the generation of large-scale entanglement, simulations of lattice gauge theories, and the design of quantum materials with tailored properties.
I will conclude with prospects for testing and certifying quantum simulators as they move into the regime of quantum advantage.
