N2 - In March 2006, a five-year research professorship in clinical nursing was established at the Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, at University of Copenhagen and at The University Hospitals' Centre for Nursing and Care Research (UCSF). The professorship is financed by the Lundbeck Foundation. This paper describes the content of the research program, ‘New interventions and perspectives on research in cancer patients'. The purpose of the research program is to develop and integrate the patients' perspectives in clinical intervention research. The intervention and research program are based on general principles focusing on patients' resources and potentials, and encourages interventions that support patients' physical and emotional control during disease and treatment. Currently the program consists of one cross scientific research project, "Body & Cancer", and six additional research projects, including three PhD studies. The cross scientific concept and the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods will contribute to the Danish health policy by developing new treatment modalities for cancer patients. Furthermore, the program will inspire existing physician initiated intervention research and make a contribution to international development within supportive cancer care.
