Modelling and measuring asymmetric damage segregation in E. coli bacteria

Asymmetric damage segregation has been put forward as an emergent population-level stress response. Here, a model for investigating the effect of stress on individual cell survival given asymmetric protein damage segregation in cell lineages is presented. 
The presentation will focus on how to use flourescent microscopy to complement this model experimentally by sampling cell populations at time intervals before and after adding stress in the form of antibiotics. The method of cell segmentation and preliminary results from quantification of the inheritance of old cell poles and the corresponding cell survival in the population are presented.
