Strong co-organized Summer School on gravitational waves
Gravitational Wave Astrophysics is at the dawn of what will become one of the greatest scientific endeavors of the 21st century. The Nobel Prize winning first detection of gravitational waves by the LIGO-Virgo Collaboration in 2015 has been a revolutionary step forward in physics and astrophysics by opening a totally new window for the exploration of the Universe.
The Strong Group co-organized and participated in the Kavli-Villum Summer School on Gravitational Waves, which took place September 25-30, 2023, in Corfu, Greece. The Kavli-Villum Summer School introduced junior scientists to a wide range of topics at the foundation of the new exciting research field of gravitational wave astronomy, from theory and source modelling to state-of-the-art data analysis methods.
Strong postdoc Gregorio Carullo held a course on “Tests of general relativity: searches for new gravitational physics”, closing a series of highly engaging lectures on the frontiers of research in gravity. 4 Strong PhD students participated in the school, engaging in a large number of discussions spurred both inside and outside class, and starting spontaneous collaborations that emerged in a stimulating and friendly environment.
The Summer School was organized in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and the Corfu Summer Institute, NTU Athens.
