Two Visiting Professors in May
We have the pleasure of welcoming two visiting professors: Leonardo Gualtieri, Professor at University of Pisa, who will visit the Strong Group from May 14-22, 2023, and Scott A. Hughes, Professor at MIT, who will visit the Strong Group from May 21-28, 2023.
Scott A. Hughes earned his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 1998, working on topics related to binary black holes and gravitational-wave measurements. He joined the department of physics of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2003, where he has served as Associate Department Head and Division Head for Astrophysics. His research continues to focus on topics related to black holes and gravitational waves, with a particular focus in recent years on pushing computational techniques for computing long, accurate waveforms describing sources of interest to future gravitational-wave detectors. He is a formerly a fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and is currently a fellow of the American Physical Society. He also holds a Margaret MacVicar Fellowship, MIT’s top award in recognition of excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Leonardo Gualtieri is a member of the Physics Department of Pisa University, where he is Full Professor in Theoretical Physics. Prof. Gualtieri’s research field is gravitational theory, an extremely diversified subject which involves the physics of fundamental interactions, astrophysics, nuclear physics.
