GWverse: the Action that looked up
In 2017, the European COST Action CA16104 Gravitational waves, black holes and fundamental physics (GWverse) was started, chaired by Prof Cardoso, and linking 3 scientific communities that were largely disjoint: one specializing in gravitational wave detection and analysis, another in black hole modelling (in both astrophysical and General Relativistic contexts), and a third in strong-gravity tests of fundamental physics, to form a single, interdisciplinary network, facilitating a common language and a framework to discuss, interact and learn from one another. The Action trained hundreds of scientists and the next generation of leaders in the field, and the very first "native" GW/multi-messenger astronomers.
During the four years of existence, the action funded hundreds of missions fostering collaborations between institutes, organized several meetings to exchange ideas and plan for the future of the field, and got the community together to elaborate an influential white paper on gravitational wave physics.
For all of that and more, the Action was selected as a COST success story by the European Commission, see the News coverage HERE, in LinkedIn, or in Twitter.
